Soon after a motor vehicle accident when I was 18, I returned to school at a small college... I was brain injured with my senses completely overwhelmed. Wanting to be part of society again, after many months of rehabilitation following one month in a coma; bilateral paralysis taunted me with a wheel chair.
Overwhelmed by the activity around me, I developed a technique of focusing on the sounds in my environment until I found the finest sound level. and tuned myself to that frequency. All the sounds of my environment, people laughing and talking loud, doors slamming, tables and chairs scrapping the floor, I would perceive as a blended hum. I would breathe with that hum, become one with the hum... Until that sounds that overpowered me became me.
Thirteen years later, I gave this description to a super string theorist soon after auditing his Physics class. He described my experience as "a technique of transcending", but assured me that "transcending on the mantra is substantially more evolutionary". He was referring to Transcendental Meditation.
That was almost a year ago, and I have been meditating on my personal mantra for almost 3 years. When I learned TM in 2008, I was still experiencing the effects of nerve damage that really made my life challenging. All though I had been able to complete a bachelors degree and was even playing drums, and even today, I continue to experience chronic pain and numbness in my limbs.
What role does TM play in my life?
First thing was to realign the path I was on... Which brought me straight to Fairfield, IA, where I am now studying Vedic Science. While Studying Vedic Science, I am reading Vedic Literature in Sanskrit. My experience of reading the Vedic Literature, which has been found to exist in the human physiology, is clearer thinking and behaving, even being able to sit up straight... Reading Vedic Literature, just like the practice of Transcendental Meditation, cultures the Nervous System...
Reading the literature in Sanskrit, I am able to experience the individual frequencies -- vritti, oscillating through my physiology, reawakening what seemed to be dead or dying in my Nervous System.
This is what I feel is most important to share right now. More to come...
